Nantucket New Years Snowy Owl Contest
Snowy Owls are seasonal visitors  to Nantucket in the winter.  Sometimes one  arrives  alone, sometimes they brings lots of friends and relations. 
Any encounter with a Snowy Owl is magical and worth-retelling to family, friends, and neighbors.   Send in your photos, essays, artwork that describe your
interaction with Snowy Owls in the past few years.  The winning entry will be featured on the Chamber’s web-site and in the next e-visitor newsblast.

7 AM – 4 PM  Linda Loring Nature Foundation/Nantucket Community School Story Walk. Head to the Linda Loring Nature Foundation at 110 Eel Point Road to walk the child-friendly trail while reading our latest nature-theme story.  This is a self-guided tour. Appropriate for children of all ages.  Fill out the short survey at the end and enter for a chance to win a hardcover copy of book.  Free!

Go along with Nantucket guide Peter Brace on a 1.5- 2-hour guided wilderness hike on the STUMP SWAMP/NORWOOD FARM trail. Two island ecosystems, a shrub swamp wetland and island moors dotted with kettle holes makes for a fascinating hike through a section of the island molded by 500 feet of ice bearing down on it 21,000 years ago. A trail meanders along the edge of the Stump Swamp offering views of water and the birds that reside here. Connecting with Almanac Pond Road, the trail continues past Almanac Pond, a kettle hole itself, and over into the 207-acre Norwood Farm. Cost: $40 adult/$20 child.
